Trump Extends Sanctions Against Russia Imposed by Biden

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order extending sanctions against Russia, as well as the state of emergency imposed in April 2021 by his predecessor, Joe Biden, due to Moscow's malicious activities.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the relevant document published in the US Federal Register.
The document states that the state of emergency introduced in 2021 was intended “to counter the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States posed by certain harmful foreign activities of the government of the Russian Federation.”
Among the specific measures are, in particular, efforts “aimed at undermining free and fair democratic elections and democratic institutions in the United States and its allies and partners.”
It also mentions malicious cyber activity, the use of transnational corruption to influence foreign governments, persecution of dissidents and journalists, undermining regional security, and violations of international law.
“For this reason, the national emergency declared in Executive Order 14024, which was expanded in Executive Order 14066 and further addressed in Executive Orders 14039, 14068, 14071, and 14114, must continue to be in effect beyond April 15, 2025. Therefore, pursuant to Section 202(d) of the Emergency Management Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am extending for 1 year the emergency declared in Executive Order 14024,” the order reads.
As The Gaze reported earlier, at the end of February, EU foreign ministers adopted the 16th package of sanctions against Russia over its aggression against Ukraine. This new round of sanctions targets not only Russia's shadowy fleet, but also those who keep dangerous oil tankers running, video game controllers used to fly drones, banks used to circumvent sanctions, and propaganda outlets used to spread lies.
