US Proposes Restarting Russia-NATO Council

The United States has proposed to resume the work of the NATO-Russia Council as part of an effort to end the war in Ukraine.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to Bloomberg.
The agency recalls that Moscow is still evading the US proposal for a ceasefire, which would include a freeze on the conflict, US recognition of the Crimean peninsula as Russian, and the lifting of US sanctions.
At the same time, the United States has allegedly prepared a new idea that could be of interest to Russia.
"Since then, the US has added new details to the proposal, including a proposal to resume security talks within the NATO-Russia Council, according to a source familiar with the matter who requested anonymity," the agency said in a statement.
The NATO-Russia Council, a post-Cold War body for bilateral security partnerships, has been effectively suspended since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The last meeting of the Council took place on 12 January 2022 in Brussels. It discussed Russia's demands for "security guarantees", which NATO member states rejected.
Earlier, the media reported that NATO had suspended discussions on rethinking its relations with Russia while the United States negotiates a settlement to the war in Ukraine.
As The Gaze reported earlier, the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) and the German Armed Forces have learned that Russia is preparing for a major war with NATO.
