US Policy Expert: Supporting Ukraine Is in America’s Interest

In an exclusive interview with UA TV English, U.S. policy expert, Doug Klain, has argued that bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities is not merely a moral obligation, but a strategic necessity that directly serves American interests.
Klein, who serves as Ukraine deputy director for policy at Razom for Ukraine, offered a comprehensive assessment of international politics, from the U.S.-China dynamic to the necessity of seizing Russian state assets.
Addressing Russia's escalating aggression, he strongly advocated for increased Western investment in Ukraine’s capabilities, noting the strategic advantages for the entire transatlantic alliance.
"The United States absolutely should be strengthening air defense as well as other forces stationed on NATO's eastern flank. As well as strengthening Ukraine's air defense," Klein stated, adding that co-production deals for drones and other defense components with Ukraine can lead to dividends for NATO as a whole.
He concluded this point with a clear assertion of the strategic imperative: "It's something that's squarely in our interest to help Ukraine in this way."
The expert also touched upon the complex U.S.-China relationship and its impact on the war. While acknowledging that China's support for Russia is a major topic in Washington, he noted that Ukraine was not a primary focus in recent high-level talks.
Klein affirmed that the U.S. possesses the necessary tools to influence Beijing's behavior: "The United States absolutely has tools to influence Chinese behavior and Chinese support for Russia. The question is, will the United States use them?"
He pointed to U.S. efforts to strike other deals with China as a potential reason why the Trump administration, in particular, has shown less interest in imposing sanctions on Beijing for its involvement in the conflict.
