The Head of the White House, Joe Biden, has approved a new $300 million worth military aid package for Ukraine. It includes ammunition for various types of weapons previously provided by the allies.
This was stated by Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby during a briefing with journalists.
"We will use that package that we’re announcing today to provide Ukraine with additional munitions for Patriot air defense systems, which Ukraine has been deploying quite effectively, as well as more Avenger air defense systems, Stinger anti-aircraft systems, and ammunition, of course, for the HIMARS, artillery, and anti-armor systems that the United States continues to provide to Ukraine," Kirby said.
The military aid package was the White House's response to Russia's recent massive missile attacks across Ukraine. In particular, over the past month, the capital city of Kyiv alone has suffered 17 air attacks, which were carried out by various types of weapons. These missile attacks were the most massive in the entire period of the war and led to the destruction of civilian areas and civilian casualties.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi thanked the American partners and noted that the new military aid package was extremely important for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"And now I thank the United States of America, President Biden personally, both parties of Congress and every American - everyone who values freedom – for a new defence package for our warriors," the President of Ukraine said in his video address.
In recent months, Ukraine's Western partners have been working to provide additional air and missile defense systems. Thus, during another Ramstein format meeting, the countries agreed to provide Kyiv with American F-16 fighter jets to protect Ukrainian skies from Russian attacks.
The United States remains to be the leader in supplying Ukraine with defense weapons. Earlier this month, Washington announced $1.2 billion in military aid for Ukraine that will include air defense systems, along with ammunition and equipment for them. In total, since the beginning of the war in February 2022, the White House has approved 39 military aid packages.
