War Won't Stop Ukraine: Country Confirmed for Eurovision 2024
The Public Broadcaster of Ukraine has confirmed the country's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. Following Loreen's victory with the song "Tattoo" at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest in 2023, hosted by Liverpool on Ukraine's behalf this May, the next competition will take place in Sweden.
Traditionally, Ukraine's representative will be chosen through an open National Vote.
Despite the difficulties of war, Ukraine is committed to maintaining its musical culture. Oksana Skibinska, head of Ukraine's Eurovision delegation, is confident that the National Selection process, which will identify Ukraine's representative for Eurovision, will invite Eurovision fans worldwide to Ukraine, including online.
This year's National Selection will introduce innovations allowing Ukrainians to be more fully involved in key decision-making processes. Dmitry Shurov, the unchanged music producer, whose music was featured in the Eurovision competitors' profiles in Liverpool, will continue his work. Armed with the successful experience of last year’s National Selection, he will work with artists and select songs.
"Submissions for participation in the National Selection and the new Eurovision season in Ukraine will begin shortly. I appeal to everyone now: get involved; we have to create and choose the next song that the country will be proud of, a song that will win the hearts of all of Europe and light a new star from Ukraine. This year, there's a surprise for you — you'll be able to choose one of the finalists yourself. Much excitement lies ahead," Dmitry Shurov revealed.
More details about the terms and novelties of the National Selection will be released this week, coinciding with the start of the application process.
The 68th Eurovision Song Contest will be hosted by the Swedish city of Malmö in May 2024. This will be the city's third time hosting the contest, with previous editions taking place in 1992 and 2013. Last time, Ukraine was represented by Zlata Ognevich with the song "Gravity," securing an honourable third place.
The Eurovision 2024 semi-finals are set to take place on May 7 and 9, with the grand finale scheduled at the Malmö Arena on Saturday, May 11.
The official media partners for Eurovision in Ukraine are Public Broadcasting, a member of the European Broadcasting Union, and Radio Promin.
