Hungarian Wizz Air wants to earn 40 euros from lazy passengers

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is changing its registration rules. Starting from June 12, the airline will reduce the time for free online check-in.
According to Avianews, passengers will now be able to register for a flight and obtain a boarding pass between 24 and 3 hours before the scheduled departure time. Currently, this window is between 48 and 3 hours before departure.
The new rules will affect passengers who have purchased tickets at the lowest fares and have not paid the fee for seat selection on the aircraft. Such passengers will be able to register for the flight online for free between 24 and 3 hours before departure. If they fail to do so, they will have to pay a fee of 40 euros for check-in and obtaining a boarding pass at the airport.
Passengers who have paid for seat selection or purchased a tariff that includes this service will be able to register for the flight between 30 days and 3 hours before departure.
Wizz Air's registration system randomly assigns seats to passengers even within the same booking. This means that if a seat is not selected, one passenger may be seated in the middle of the cabin while another may be seated at the rear.
Earlier, it was announced that Wizz Air would introduce a "subscription" for airline tickets, allowing passengers to book tickets at a fixed price for a period of 6 months. This service will apply to all Wizz Air international routes from Poland and all domestic routes within Italy. The ticket subscription service became available in a testing mode starting from May 5.
To subscribe to the MultiPass, passengers will need to register on a special website provided by the airline. During the registration process, passengers will need to specify which flights will be included in the subscription, either domestic flights within Italy or international flights from Poland.
On June 2, 2023, Wizz Air announced the pricing for the Wizz Multipass subscription, which allows passengers to fly once a month at a fixed price for a period of six months. The minimum price for Wizz Multipass in Poland starts from 239 Polish zlotys (53 euros) per month for one-way flights, and from 478 Polish zlotys (106 euros) for round-trip flights. For Italy, the minimum subscription price is 37 euros per month for one-way tickets and 74 euros for round-trip tickets.
The minimum-cost Wizz Multipass allows for the transportation of only small hand luggage with dimensions up to 40x30x20 cm. Passengers will have to pay an additional fee for larger baggage.
It should be noted that on February 27, the Hungarian company suspended all flights from Russia due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, in August, Wizz Air decided to resume flights to the capital of Russia, citing "high demand" as the reason. After users called for a boycott of the company, Wizz Air indefinitely postponed the resumption of the Moscow-Abu Dhabi route. The carrier did not mention the criticism on its announcement, only stating "constraints in the industry's supply chain" as the reason for their decision.
