Zelenskyy, Norwegian PM Discuss Air Defense and Sanctions on Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Støre, focusing on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and reinforcing sanctions pressure against Russia.
The Gaze writes about it, referring to Zelenskyy's post on social media.
The Ukrainian president praised the momentum in preparations for bolstering Ukraine’s air defense systems, describing the pace of coordination with Norway and other partners as promising.
The discussion included both bilateral initiatives and broader cooperation formats involving European allies and the United States.
“We are coordinating our steps with Norway – both bilateral and within broader formats, in Europe and with the United States. I am grateful for this support and readiness to work together for protection against Russian terror,” Zelenskyy noted.
The two leaders also addressed the urgency of tightening sanctions on Moscow, emphasizing the need for swifter action from both the European Union and G7 nations.
Energy security was another priority on the agenda. Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine and Norway had reached concrete agreements to prepare for the upcoming winter, with Oslo reaffirming its readiness to assist.
The call follows recent reports that Norway may co-finance a Patriot air defense system for Ukraine, part of a broader international effort to shield the country from ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks.
As The Gaze reported earlier, at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2025) in Rome, the Government of Norway and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced a $200 million initiative to support the green reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy sector, heavily damaged by Russian attacks.
