France Prešeren
Prešeren is a Slovenian classic of 19th-century European literature. He was born in 1800 into a family of wealthy peasants in the town of Vrba, which was then part of the Austrian Empire. Having noticed their son's desire to write poetry, his parents first sent him to study in Ljubljana and later to Vienna. Prešeren became a prominent representative of the Romanticism movement. Among his most famous works are ballads and epic poems about love and life on the conquered territory. The poet is also the author of the words to "Zazdorovnica," the national anthem of Slovenia.
Jože Plenčik
Plenčik is a well-known Slovenian architect whose building projects have been implemented in many European cities. The architect was born in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, in 1872. Plenčik studied under the famous Austrian architect Otto Wagner in Vienna. The Slovenian architect designed many buildings in Vienna, Prague, Bratislava, and in the capital of his native Slovenia, Ljubljana. Thus, the Triple Bridge, the buildings of the Slovenian National and University Libraries, the Ljubljana Cemetery, and many others were built using Jože Plenčik's designs. The architect also worked on the famous Prague Castle in the Czech Republic.
The Avsenik Brothers
The Avsenik Brothers is the name of the most famous Slovenian band, where two brothers were the soloists – the famous accordionist Slavko Avsenik and his brother, the arranger Vilko. The band was founded in Begunje na Gorenjskem in 1953. Over the years, the band has created more than 1000 songs, many of which have become iconic, not only in Slovenia, but also in many countries of Europe and America. The number of records and CDs sold by the Avsenik Brothers has reached 32 million. The ensemble has also given about 10 thousand concerts, three of which were accompanied by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
DJ Umek
Umek is a Slovenian techno-house musician. He was born in 1976 in Ljubljana, where he began his musical career at the age of 17. In the noughties, Umek became a legend among techno music lovers. Over the years, he has released numerous EPs and singles. Umek can play on four DJ consoles simultaneously. Because of this virtuoso skill, he is sometimes called the best DJ in the world. Umek is also the owner of 2 well-known record labels Consumer recreation and Recycled loops.
Jan Oblak
Oblak is a famous Slovenian goalkeeper currently playing for Atletico Madrid and the Slovenian national team. The footballer was born in 1993 in the Slovenian town of Škofja Loka, where he first appeared on the football field playing for Ločan. His professional debut occurred in the 2009/2010 season, when Jan Oblak played for Olimpija Ljubljana, being only 16 years old. In 2014, the talented goalkeeper moved to Atletico Madrid, where he plays until now. Jan Oblak received the Ricardo Zamora Trophy four times as the best goalkeeper.
