Ukrainian Film ‘Timestamp’ Has World Premiere at 75th Berlinale in Germany

On 20 February, the Berlinale Film Festival hosted the world premiere of the documentary film Time Tape by Ukrainian director Kateryna Hornostai.
This is the first film by a Ukrainian director to be included in the main competition programme of the Berlin International Film Festival since 1997.
Kateryna Hornostai dedicated The Time Tape to the memory of her younger brother Maksym Hornostai, who died in the Russian war in eastern Ukraine in 2023.
‘We want Ukraine to be a safe place. This is the dream of all of us!’ said the director after the premiere, introducing the film's team. She thanked the festival for including her work in the main competition.
The day before the premiere, Kateryna Hornostai and her partner, the film's editor, Nikon Romanenko, became parents. The organisers noted at the premiere that this was the ‘first baby’ of the Berlinale.
The film's authors and several protagonists, including the teachers who appear in the film, walked the red carpet of the 75th Berlinale. They were greeted with long applause and slogans: ‘Glory to Ukraine!’.
The Berlin International Film Festival will run until 23 February, and the winners will be announced the day before the festival ends.
