53rd Molodist Film Festival, One of the Largest in Eastern Europe, Starts in Ukraine, Germany
The 53rd Molodist Film Festival, one of the largest film festivals in Eastern Europe, has started today in Kyiv and Hamburg. It will showcase about 200 films that will introduce viewers to the diversity of contemporary young cinema, as well as world hits from Berlin, Cannes, Venice, etc., the Ukrainian State Film Agency reports.
This year, the National Competition of Ukrainian feature films of the Kyiv International Film Festival ‘Molodist’ will be held for the third time at the Hamburg Film Festival FILMFEST HAMBURG, which will also take place from 26 September to 5 October 2024. This tradition was started 2 years ago, when, due to the Russian full-scale military invasion, the festival lost the opportunity to take place in Kyiv on its usual dates. At the same time, a full-length national competition was launched.
The competition includes feature films 'The Editorial Board' by Roman Bondarchuk, 'Grey Bees' by Dmytro Moiseyev, 'Stepne' by Maryna Vroda, 'Diagnosis: dissent' by Denys Tarasov, 'The House Behind Glass' by Taras Dron and 'Oxygen Station' by Ivan Tymchenko.
The slogan of this year's festival is ‘Cinema that leaves traces’. The Ukrainian State Film Agency notes that the winner of the Grand Prix for the best film in the international competition programme will receive USD 5,000 and a Scythian Deer statuette.
The prize for the best film in each category of the international competition programme will be USD 2,000, and the winners will also receive Scythian Stag statuettes.
Founded in 1970, the Molodist Film Festival is the only international film festival in Ukraine accredited by the International Association of Film Producers FIAPF and one of the largest film festivals in Eastern Europe.
