77th Cannes Film Festival Kicks Off in France: Olympic Flame to Grace the Red Carpet
The 77th Cannes Film Festival will be a preview of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The premiere of Michael Hamrasna's documentary Olympians! Young France" on 21 May, the Olympic flame will be lit as part of the torch relay that runs from 8 May to 18 June.

The main competition for the Palme d'Or will be attended by premiere films:
"Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis;
"The Kind of Kindness by Yorgos Lanthimos;
"Shrouds by David Cronenberg;
"The Parthenon by Paolo Sorrentino and others.
A film by Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov, Limonov, The Ballad of Edichka, will also compete for the main award. This is a film about the Russian writer, politician, Ukrainophobe, and leader of the National Bolshevik Party, Eduard Limonov.
The programme of special screenings will include the documentary La belle de Gaza by Yolanda Soberman about transgender Palestinians from Gaza who immigrate to Tel Aviv.
In addition, there will also be a premiere of The Invasion, a film about the Russian invasion of Ukraine by Serhiy Loznitsa, who was expelled from the Ukrainian Film Academy.
The film Seeds of the Sacred Fig by Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof is also scheduled to be screened. He was recently sentenced to 8 years in prison, flogging and confiscation of property, in particular for secretly making films, which the court called "conspiracy with the intent to commit a crime against the country's security".
