A film village will be built in Tallinn
Preparations for the construction of the main structure of the film village, which will be located in Põhja-Tallinn district on Paljassaare, are nearing completion. As of today, the company AS Tallinna Arendused has invested approximately 450,000 euros in planning and preparatory work, according to Postimees.
According to Tallinn's Vice Mayor Jõozep Vimm, significant work has been done in collaboration with various parties, and the first construction tender is planned to be announced by the end of June.
"Tallinn Film Wonderland, which brings together the film industry professionals of Estonia, submitted a request to include the Tallinn film village on the list of cultural objects of national importance. The city is ready to provide technical support and interim financing to expedite the process. To date, the municipal company AS Tallinna Arendused has invested nearly half a million euros in planning and preparatory work," said Vimm.
The total area of the film village is 12,959 square meters, and it is planned to be built in several stages. In addition to the main building with studios spanning 6,223 square meters, an extension, premises for audiovisual companies, and a backlot area for outdoor filming are also included. The building will be highly environmentally friendly, generating energy through solar panels and utilizing resources efficiently (geothermal heating, effective waste management, rainwater usage, etc.).
The building will house three auditoriums of different sizes with excellent sound insulation, with a total area of 2,630 square meters. Adjacent to the building will be a five-story administrative block with one underground floor, accommodating dressing rooms, costume departments, and office spaces. The two studio halls can be interconnected by sliding doors, making the entire center multifunctional and adaptable to various needs. In addition to audiovisual productions, the new facility will be able to host other cultural events.
The capital's film village will support the development of local film culture and create conditions to enhance the competitiveness of the film industry at the local and international levels, as well as maximize Estonia's potential as a filming location. The film village aims to become a recognized modern film center in the region, boosting Estonia's popularity in the film industry, increasing the export of local film productions, and enhancing the substantive and technical expertise in the film industry.
