Lithuania, Estonia Tighten Sanctions Against Georgian Government
Lithuania, in coordination with Estonia, has expanded the list of Georgian politicians and government officials subject to sanctions for using violence against anti-government protesters.
This was announced by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys on social media.
Budris announced that 17 more Georgian officials, including Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, had been added to the sanctions list.
'We will not tolerate the violence & oppression against peaceful protesters, journalists & the opposition. It's time for joint EU level action now!’ he called.
Earlier, Estonia announced that it had banned 14 more Georgian officials and judges, including Prime Minister Kobakhidze.
Anti-government protests in Georgia have been going on since late November after the Georgian authorities announced a pause on its European Union accession until the end of 2028.
Georgian security forces have beaten and harshly detained protesters, as well as foreigners and journalists.
