Almost 2 Million Elements of Ukraine’s Cultural Heritage Under Occupation
About two million elements of Ukrainian cultural heritage are under occupation.
This was stated by Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochytskyi during the forum ‘Diplomacy Today: Ukraine's Role in Global Politics’, Ukrinform reports.
‘Our eternal enemy aims not only at houses, not only at taking away territories, but also at our identity. About 2 million of our cultural heritage elements are now under occupation,’ Tochytskyi said.
He noted that about 1,700 artistic and cultural institutions in Ukraine have already been destroyed as a result of Russian aggression.
‘We have to protect our cultural heritage, which is a big part of our national security, and the President, the government, and, above all, the Ministry (of Culture and Strategic Communications - ed.) are working on this today,’ the minister said.
According to him, culture has always been, is and will be the main fundamental element of Ukrainian diplomacy.
‘When the word does not reach the goal, that is, we do not achieve the opportunity to convince our partner of this or that option, we always turn to art and culture,’ Tochytskyi said.
Earlier, President Zelenskyy announced a ‘cultural Ramstein’ for Ukraine in 2025.
