Ivor Ivanišević, a 47-year-old fugitive from Zagreb who worked in the European Parliament as well as in the episcopate, has finally been arrested. Ivanišević was tried in absentia and sentenced to one year of imprisonment for years of sexual violence against a dog, reports Croatian Index. He was recently arrested and, according to unofficial information, is currently in custody in Belgium.

The sought-after fugitive was apprehended in Germany a few days ago. At the time of committing the crime, he was employed at the European Parliament and was a member of the Council of Ecumenism of the Episcopal Conference of Croatia.

In September 2021, Ivanišević was sentenced in absentia by the Zagreb Municipal Criminal Court to the maximum penalty of one year imprisonment due to years of sexual violence against dogs, as well as the manner of committing the crimes which he detailed in his email correspondence.

Judge Jasna Zoretić Rendulić convicted him to prison under the provision "killing or torturing animals due to prolonged period of cruel treatment" from 2009 to 2015, as well as for the method of committing the crime. However, she recognized his previous lack of convictions as a mitigating circumstance.

The "Friends of Animals" Association welcomed the verdict of the municipal criminal court, stating that the judge saved justice and Croatia's reputation by preventing the expiration of the statute of limitations due to court obstruction of defence.

For a long time, he was inaccessible to Croatian justice.

As a reminder, Ivanišević was caught in the act during a campaign against pedophiles who exploit children via the Internet, conducted in 2015. Investigators noticed an IP address distributing explicit images of animals.

The email address was registered to a company specialising in graphic design, with its headquarters in the Zagreb area of Knežija. Ivanišević was the owner of the company, and after a search at the company, his apartment in Zagreb was also searched. They confiscated 111 DVDs and CDs, mobile phones, and memory cards and found that he used at least five different email addresses to distribute suspicious content. With these email addresses, he sent pictures of dogs in sexual positions with men and pictures of genitals. In one of the numerous emails, he described his attempts to achieve sado-maso relations with dogs.

The unfortunate dogs, both male and female, were found in a poor condition and sent to a shelter in Dumovci.
