Belgium Invests €9 Million in Ukraine's Green Energy Recovery Programme
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced the signing of a financial agreement with the Belgian government to contribute €9 million to Ukraine's green energy recovery programme.
It is noted that the UNDP's green energy recovery programme in Ukraine is designed to address the urgent needs arising from the war. Belgium's funding will help repair and restore critical energy facilities.
‘Belgium stands firmly by Ukraine's side in these difficult times. Our support for the UNDP Green Energy Recovery Programme is a testament to solidarity and a shared vision of a sustainable and resilient future for all Ukrainians,’ said Ambassador of Belgium to Ukraine Peter Van de Velde.
UNDP Resident Representative Jaco Silier called the investment a crucial step in rebuilding Ukraine's energy sector and strengthening its resilience.
The organisation noted that the proposed activities under this partnership will focus on cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odesa, where the need for efficient energy solutions is most urgent. By deploying backup generation systems and improving local energy infrastructure, UNDP aims to increase access to essential services such as heating, electricity and clean water.
