BMW Recalls Over 140,000 Mini Cooper SE Electric Cars Due to Battery Issues That Could Cause Fires
German carmaker BMW is recalling Mini Cooper SE electric vehicles worldwide for the first time due to battery problems. This could potentially affect more than 140,000 vehicles, Reuters reports.
The car company clarified that about 39,000 cars may be recalled in Germany itself. Despite this, no accidents or injuries have been reported so far.
Problems in the battery system can lead to overheating.
‘We cannot rule out the possibility of the car catching fire even when it is parked,’ the statement said.
The car's software contains a diagnostic function that recognises a battery fault and warns the driver. BMW will update the model's software to protect against fires.
Customers who have received a letter or message from the carmaker should visit Mini service centres for free repairs, the company said.
As previously reported by The Gaze, German carmaker Volkswagen has announced its intention to close factories in Germany and cut staff for the first time in its 87-year history. The management explains this by the deteriorating economic situation.
