Bulgaria to Finance Free Transport for Ukrainian Schoolchildren
The Bulgarian government has approved the allocation of almost 300,000 leva (about 151,000 euros) for free transport to school for students, refugees from Ukraine with temporary protection in Bulgaria. This was reported by The Sofia Globe with reference to the government information service.
The interim government of Bulgaria made the decision at its meeting.
The money will be used to transport children from their accommodation to educational institutions for the entire new 2024/2025 academic year.
Most of the children are enrolled in educational institutions in the Burgas and Varna regions. They are enrolled in schools where there are vacancies, so some children attend more distant educational institutions.
To guarantee them access to education, the government has decided to allocate additional funds for transport to and from schools.
The financial assistance will be paid from the budget of the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria and from the budgets of five municipalities - Nessebar, Pomorie, Varna, Aksakovo and Balchik.
As The Gaze previously reported, Bulgaria will help Ukraine restore telecommunications and join a NATO mission to train Ukrainian troops.
