Bulgarian President Approves Interim Government and Sets Election Date
On 26 August, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev accepted the new interim government proposed by acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Novinite reports.
Dimitar Glavchev proposed the candidacy of Atanas Ilkov, who is currently the head of the national police, for the post of acting interior minister. Glavchev also proposed Ivan Condov as the new foreign minister.
President Rumen Radev accepted the appointments and confirmed that he would sign a decree tomorrow to form a new government. The head of state also said that on 27 August he would sign a decree calling for parliamentary elections on 27 October.
Radev noted that the new Cabinet of Ministers, dubbed Glavchev-2, would be sworn in before the National Assembly on the same day as the decree. In addition, the interim government will be responsible for nominating a candidate for the post of European Commissioner by the end of the week.
Last week, the president refused to sign a decree appointing Goritsa Grancharov as acting prime minister because Kalin Stoyanov was on the list of candidates for the post of interior minister.
