Canada Invests $15 Million in Tank Repairs for Ukraine’s Defense
Canada has pledged nearly $15 million to bolster the maintenance and repair of Leopard 2 tanks used by Ukraine during the 29th Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting,
The Gaze reports this, referring to a statement made by the Canadian government.
Canadian Defence Minister David McGuinty announced the $14.6 million (CAD) contribution, which will fund operations at the Leopard 2 Maintenance and Repair Facility in Poland.
The funding is drawn from Canada’s 2025–2026 defense assistance budget for Ukraine, the Department of National Defence confirmed.
McGuinty also reiterated Ottawa’s broader security pledge to Ukraine, referencing PM Mark Carney’s announcement at the G7 Summit in June of a sweeping $1.48 billion military aid package.
Additionally, the delivery of 50 Canadian-made Armoured Combat Support Vehicles is scheduled to begin in August, with all units expected to arrive in Poland by the end of the year.
Ukrainian forces are already undergoing training to operate and maintain these vehicles.
“Through our coordinated military assistance, Canada and our international partners are working to enhance Ukraine’s defences against Russian aggression,” McGuinty said. “Canada commends the bravery and strength of Ukrainians, and we will continue to stand with Ukraine.”
Earlier this year, Canada also transferred $1.7 billion to Ukraine sourced from the interest generated by frozen Russian state assets.
With this latest pledge, Canada’s total military support for Ukraine since February 2022 now reaches approximately $4.78 billion.
