Canada Prepares New Sanctions Against Russia Over Deportation of Ukrainians and Advocates for Long-Range Strikes
Canada is preparing to announce a new package of sanctions against Russia in connection with the illegal deportation of Ukrainians from the temporarily occupied territories. This was announced in Montreal by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly after the conference on the ‘peace formula’, Ukrinform reports.
‘Yesterday, the US representative announced new sanctions against Russia, mainly related to deported children. We are now coordinating our sanctions with the United States and the European Union,’ she said.
The minister stressed that Canada is committed to continuing to put ‘maximum pressure’ on Russia.
Official Canada is also persuading other states to grant Ukraine permission to use long-range weapons against targets in Russia.
‘We approve of Ukraine's use of long-range weapons against targets in Russia, because Ukraine needs it for self-defence. We are also trying to persuade other countries to take this position,’ she said.
In June, Canada imposed additional sanctions against 11 individuals and 16 legal entities from Russia involved in disinformation and propaganda operations.
