"Common Sense Revolution": U.S. President Trump Announces First Executive Orders on Border Closures, Deportations, and Oil Drilling
New US President Donald Trump has said that he will launch a ‘common sense revolution’ with his first executive orders. He intends to sign about 200 on his first day, which will surpass the number issued by most former presidents in a single term.
‘Today I will sign several historic decrees. With these actions, we will begin the full restoration of America and a revolution of common sense,’ the 47th US president said in his inaugural address on Monday immediately after being sworn in as head of state.
According to him, he will abolish electric vehicle incentives and quotas and promote a record increase in oil production.
‘We will build cars in America again and more than ever before,’ Trump said.
The new president also promised to return to service the US military personnel dismissed for refusing to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and to stop the spread of ‘radical political theories and social experiments’ in the military.
Trump said that from 1 February, tariffs would be imposed on Mexico and Canada.
He signed a list of executive actions on immigration that will result in a crackdown on immigration policy - the culmination of several campaign promises.
Trump also reversed Biden's orders on Cuba, West Bank settlers and artificial intelligence, and is pulling the US out of the Paris Agreement - This is an international agreement to combat climate change, and nearly 200 countries have pledged to keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius, and ideally below 1.5 degrees.
