Czech Republic: Ammunition Supplies to Ukraine to Accelerate
A Czech-led initiative to purchase ammunition from around the world for Ukraine will deliver 100,000 rounds of ammunition to the country in July and August. This was announced today in Brussels by Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky, Reuters reports.
‘During July and August, we will send about 100 (thousand) more. From September, these deliveries will accelerate,’ Lipavsky told reporters.
‘We are now looking for money to buy more ammunition so that the initiative can continue in 2025,’ ČTK quoted the minister as saying.
According to him, 18 countries have joined the initiative so far, and 15 of them have already fulfilled their pledges and made their contributions. This means that there are enough funds to supply 500,000 rounds of ammunition to Ukraine by the end of the year.
The goal is to deliver hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds to Ukraine to compensate for the Russians' firepower. The Czech Republic buys ammunition all over the world.
Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) announced the first delivery of ammunition in late June. The Czech Republic acts as an intermediary in the initiative, which involves nearly two dozen countries. So far, about €1.6 billion has been raised.
The Czech Ammunition Initiative is looking for artillery ammunition for Ukraine in countries outside the European Union. Some time ago, the first batch of ammunition in the amount of 50,000 units arrived in Ukraine. In this initiative, the Czech Republic cooperates mainly with the Netherlands and Denmark. The Czech Republic alone contributed almost CZK 866 million to the supply, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said earlier.
