Czech Republic to Allocate Nearly €35 Million for its International Ammunition Procurement Initiative for Ukraine
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said yesterday that the Czech Republic will allocate almost CZK 866 million (EUR 34.7 million) as part of its international initiative to supply Ukraine with artillery ammunition.
Fiala said this at a press conference before leaving for Brussels for a meeting of the European Council, Czech News reports.
According to the Czech Prime Minister, the funds allocated by the Czech government will be spent on the purchase of ammunition from the Czech company STV Group.
According to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, at the February EU summit, he proposed to purchase artillery ammunition for Ukraine from third countries at EU expense. He was talking about 800,000 rounds of ammunition that the Czech Republic had found around the world. In May, he said that member states had already contributed more than €1.6 billion.
Earlier, on Tuesday, 25 June, Petr Fiala said that the first batch of ammunition under the Czech initiative was already in Ukraine.
The day before yesterday, Czech Defence Minister Jana Černohová also said that 18 countries had already joined the initiative, but did not name the countries where the ammunition was being purchased, as Russia could try to disrupt the agreement.
