Demining and Air Defense: The UK Announces a New Military Aid Package for the Ukrainian Armed Forces Worth Over €115 Million
On October 11, the United Kingdom is set to announce a new military aid package for Ukraine, valued at over €115 million. This package includes assistance for demining operations, support for transportation assets, and strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure.
This announcement comes via the official UK government website.
The new military aid will be provided through the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU). Defence Minister Grant Shapps will make this announcement during a meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
This development follows the signing of a new contract for a previously announced package of air defence systems (ADS), which involves providing Ukraine with ADS equipment worth over £70 million (over €81 million), including the MSI-DS Terrahawk Paladin platform, capable of tracking and neutralizing drones and safeguarding critical infrastructure.
"During my recent visit to Kyiv, I assured President Zelenskyy that the United Kingdom steadfastly supports Ukraine and its most pressing needs. Today, I am proud to announce that the United Kingdom, together with our allies, is delivering on this promise by signing new contracts to provide Ukraine with critical ADS systems for the protection of the civilian population from Putin's barbaric bombing campaign," Shapps stated.
This latest package will also provide essential equipment to assist Ukrainian soldiers in clearing minefields, bridge assets to aid river crossings, trenches, and heavy transport vehicles to remove Russian non-explosive obstacles.
"This new support package is the latest in the unprecedented and ongoing efforts of 50 countries to provide Ukraine with the tools necessary to resist Russia's aggression and reclaim lost territories," said Chief of the Defence Staff Admiral Tony Radakin.
The IFU uses financial contributions from international partners to provide priority military aid to Ukraine, ensuring the continuous supply of military support—both lethal and non-lethal—to Ukraine until 2023 and beyond.
To date, £785 million (€900 million) has been raised through the IFU, thanks to contributions from the UK, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, and Lithuania.
