Denmark to Give Ukraine Package of Weapons Worth Over $100 Million
The Danish government has announced that it has prepared a new military aid package for Ukraine worth DKK 783 million (USD 116 million).
This is reported on the website of the Danish Ministry of Defence.
The package is aimed at meeting Ukraine's short-term and long-term defence needs. The funds will be used to purchase new military equipment through the Ukrainian defence industry and international partners.
‘Putin continues his brutal and bloody attacks on Ukrainians. It is crucial that Denmark continues to support Ukraine so that they can defend themselves. This twentieth military support package has been drawn up based on Ukraine's wishes and needs and should support Ukraine in the short term and in the years to come,’ said Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.
Financial contributions, in particular for the defence industry, are central to the package, which has been increased by DKK 300 million (USD 45 million) in 2024.
An additional DKK 112 million (USD 17 million) has also been allocated in 2024 to finance procurement through Ukrainian defence companies.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen noted that Denmark is and will remain among the biggest supporters of Ukraine.
"We have consistently shown that where there is a will, there is a way, and Denmark has set an international standard of support for Ukraine. Today, we are taking another step with the 20th military aid package, which will provide Ukraine with much-needed military equipment that will make a difference against Russia's aggressive war," he said.
For operational and security reasons, details of the full contents of the aid package are not disclosed.
In July, Denmark allocated funds for the production of 18 Ukrainian 2S22 Bohdan self-propelled artillery systems for the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
On 13 June, Ukraine and Denmark signed a memorandum on the purchase of weapons and military equipment from Ukrainian manufacturers.
As The Gaze previously reported, in late July it became known that the Netherlands and Denmark would supply 14 Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
