Denmark Allocates Over €280 Million to Strengthen Ukraine's Air Defence
Denmark has allocated DKK 2.1 billion (€281.5 million) to strengthen Ukraine's air defence. The Ministry of Defence of Denmark announced this on its website on 19 December.
This is the 23rd aid package allocated to Ukraine. This defence package also includes a financial contribution to the operation of F-16 fighter jets in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
‘One of Ukraine's most urgent needs now is the ability to defend itself from Russian air strikes. That is why we are prioritising more support for air defence,’ commented Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.
In addition, Denmark is donating several CV90 infantry fighting vehicles in cooperation with Sweden, sending additional troops to NATO's support mission to Ukraine and increasing its contribution to the EU military mission to support Ukraine.
The assistance package is financed by a reallocation of funds from the Ukraine Fund - a special fund established by Denmark to assist Ukraine - in 2024 and contributions from the European Peace Fund.
In addition, the remaining DKK 275 million will be reallocated to strengthen the financial contribution to ‘the development of Ukraine's fighter aircraft capacity,’ the statement said.
In total, Denmark has earmarked DKK 64.8 billion for military support for Ukraine from 2023 to 2028, which is being implemented through a special Ukrainian fund. More than 50 billion kroner has already been spent or pledged.
In October, the Danish government announced the 21st package of military assistance to Ukraine, aimed at both supplying weapons from warehouses and ordering them from international suppliers.
In December, Ukraine also received the second batch of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark.
