Digitalisation and Bomb Shelters for Museum Funds : Ukraine and the US to Strengthen Cooperation in Protecting Cultural Heritage
Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Lee Satterfield and Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine Mykola Tochytskyi discussed the urgent issues of protecting Ukrainian cultural heritage, which is being significantly damaged by Russian aggression, as well as strengthening cooperation in the field of strategic communications.
During the meeting, the parties discussed specific measures to preserve cultural property, including the construction of specialised shelters to protect the museum collection from bombing. In addition, digitalisation of cultural heritage plays an important role. It will help preserve information for future generations and promote Ukraine globally.
The parties paid special attention to cooperation in the field of identification and return of stolen cultural property.
One of the key topics was the inclusion of the issue of preserving cultural heritage on the agenda of the International Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine to be held in Rome in the summer of 2025. This issue should receive due attention from the international community, as Ukraine's cultural heritage is not only the basis of our nation's identity, but also an integral part of world culture.
An important aspect of the conversation was the topic of strategic communications. Fighting disinformation is only part of a larger effort. Today, it is important not only to defend ourselves, but to act proactively by shaping strategic narratives.
Therefore, Ukraine and the United States will work closely together to protect Ukrainian cultural heritage and strengthen strategic communications.
