EU to Expedite Investigation into Musk’s Social Media Platform X for Violations of the Digital Services Act
The European Union will accelerate its investigation into Elon Musk's social network X over suspected violations of the Digital Services Act (DSA), Bloomberg reports.
In a letter to European lawmakers seen by the publication, EU Digital Commissioner Hanna Virkkunen and Justice Secretary Michael McGrath confirmed that the European Commission intends to reach a conclusion in the case ‘as soon as legally possible’.
This shows the growing attention to social network X, which Musk uses to promote right-wing radical candidates around the world.
In particular, the billionaire has endorsed Germany's far-right leader Alice Weidel of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and plans to conduct a live interview with her on X on Thursday.
The European Commission has announced that it will check whether the social network's algorithms are being used to deliberately promote the live broadcast, which could potentially be a violation of the law.
