EU to Provide Moldova With Equipment to Intercept Drones
Moldova will receive equipment for intercepting drones from the European Union. This was stated by the EU Ambassador to Chisinau, Jānis Mažeiks, Radio Moldova reports.
According to Mažeiks, Moldova will receive equipment for intercepting drones from the EU. At the same time, he said, it will take time to provide the equipment.
He could not give a specific date, but noted that the equipment would arrive no earlier than 2025.
In this context, he mentioned the support the EU has been providing to the Moldovan Armed Forces over the past three years in the form of non-lethal equipment.
‘If this equipment is delivered to the Republic of Moldova, it will help prevent situations where drones from abroad penetrate the territory of the Republic of Moldova,’ said Mažeiks.
On 10 November, two drones were spotted in Moldova - in the Kaushan and Rishkan districts. Later, on the outskirts of the village of Cosernita, Moldovan law enforcement officers found a third drone, and on 19 November, another drone was found in the north of Chisinau.
On 3 December, the Moldovan side also reported on the wreckage of the drones found.
And on 9 December, Moldovan Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatîi said that the country remains vulnerable to incidents involving airspace violations by Russian drones.
