Exhibition of a Famous Crimean Ceramist Takes Place in the Bulgarian Capital

In Bulgaria, the Sofia gallery "Mission" is currently hosting an exhibition titled "Qalqan/Shield" by the renowned Ukrainian ceramist of Crimean Tatar origin, Rustem Skybin. The event runs from May 8 to 17 and is organized by the Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria, as reported on the diplomatic institution's Facebook page.
The exhibition features ceramic panels in the form of protective shields adorned with Crimean Tatar plant motifs, along with informative posters about the history and culture of Crimea.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by representatives of Bulgarian political and artistic circles, activists from the Crimean Tatar and Ukrainian communities in Bulgaria, as well as ordinary residents of Sofia interested in Ukrainian and specifically Crimean art.
"I would like to congratulate the artist Rustem Skybin, who has worked for over 20 years on creating these artefacts. These historical decorations are a symbol of rebirth, resistance to injustice, and the preservation and continuation of life," noted Maria Angelieva, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, at the exhibition opening.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Bulgaria Olesia Ilashchuk noted that the holding of the "Qalqan/Shield" exhibition in Sofia is dedicated to honouring the victims of the Crimean Tatar genocide.
"On May 18, 80 years ago, by Stalin's order, all Crimean Tatars were deported from Crimea. Half of them perished on the way and in the early years of exile. This was one of the most severe crimes of the 20th century. Forced deportation and the loss of a homeland for decades," emphasized the Ukrainian diplomat.
Recall that The Gaze previously reported that during the 77th Cannes International Film Festival, on May 19 in Cannes (France), at Villa Domerg, the second "UKRAINIANFASHION FILM FESTIVAL" will take place - a charitable evening of Ukrainian culture, beauty, and fashion.
