Expert: Europe Concerned About Its Own Security When Calling for Truce in Ukraine

The security of Europe is tied to the security of Ukraine - a specific common defence infrastructure is being formed today, political scientist Olesya Yakhno emphasised.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to the broadcast of the FREEDOM TV channel.
"Indeed, Europe today is facing the need not just to quantitatively address the issue or support military assistance to Ukraine, but to qualitatively change its defence policy as such due to the challenges that Europe is facing today. And the security issues of Ukraine and Europe are now directly linked. Therefore, when all these platforms are discussing the issue of assistance to Ukraine or how to ensure a ceasefire, to some extent Europe is also discussing its own long-term security, of which the security of Ukraine is an inseparable part or an integral part," the political scientist said.
According to her, it is very important that the ‘coalition of the willing’ is now discussing security at sea, on land and in the sky. And all of this can be provided by a different configuration of countries depending on the region itself, depending on the types of troops and resources available in a particular country, as well as political components.
"It is important that this infrastructure is being formed now, because it cannot be created overnight. And even if there is no truce today that would give a start to ensuring a long-term ceasefire, this issue needs to be discussed at the level of creating a specific infrastructure so that these mechanisms can be launched at the appropriate time and do not require a long time. It is also important that the need to strengthen the Ukrainian armed forces as one of the most important security guarantees is being discussed everywhere," the guest said.
The political scientist emphasised that Europe is really facing the need for qualitative changes.
"And the uncertainty that exists to a large extent in the relationship between the US and Europe, on the one hand, makes Europe more vulnerable, and on the other hand, it will set tasks in a shorter time and more effectively determine its own security, significantly strengthen it. And here, as I said, Ukraine is part of security, this is a holistic view. Still, if we are talking about the security of the European region, I think this process will continue to develop," Olesya Yakhno summed up.
As The Gaze reported earlier, political analyst Igar Tyshkevych predicts an Easter ceasefire is unlikely because Russia still has the resources to continue the war, while the best option for US President Donald Trump would be to freeze the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine until the US-China summit.
