At a meeting with US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin may try to push through an ultimatum under the guise of a compromise to end Russia's war against Ukraine. This is a trap with no intention of ending the aggression. The Kremlin retains its maximalist territorial ambitions regarding Ukraine. Trump, meanwhile, is counting on a peace agreement with Putin. He may offer the dictator a way out of isolation in exchange for a ceasefire, according to political scientist and head of the Centre for Analysis and Strategies Igor Chalenko.

The Gaze writes about it, referring to a broadcast on the FREEDOM TV channel.

"The Russian Federation and Putin personally will use this meeting to rebuild their geopolitical status. In other words, it is whitewashing. It is a clear whitewashing of the Russian dictator. The meeting will take place on what was once Russian territory, which was then ceded to the United States in exchange for the imperial family's debts. The fact that such a meeting will take place on the territory of the United States is not a very good sign in itself. The second point is the creation of a kind of ‘Yalta-2’ for the redistribution of spheres of influence in the world. This is what the Russian Federation wants to achieve now. And Trump wants to use every possible moment to bring peace to Ukraine," said the speaker.

In his opinion, Donald Trump is really trying to find a way to resolve the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine.

"Perhaps he is not choosing the most logical and understandable paths, but at least he is trying.

However, the Russian Federation will try to push through its ultimatum under the guise of a compromise, which may be followed by a cessation of hostilities. And this is the biggest trap. Neither our European partners, nor Ukraine itself, nor Trump want to create conditions for the war to continue and resume after a certain period of time. According to the media, what the Russians are proposing is a new war with even more brutal consequences, clearly encapsulated for the future," Chalenko said.

Negotiations on Ukraine's future should be conducted with its participation and only after a complete ceasefire by the aggressor country, the political scientist believes.

"What could really be considered a possible positive outcome of the upcoming meeting? If the American president proceeded from the assumption that any further steps are possible only after a complete ceasefire. This is what Ukrainians and Europeans in general are seeking. Then, at the political level, we would discuss the details of the truce and the end of the war in general. This would be an entirely logical step. Unfortunately, however, we are again hearing the same signals that no, the Russian Federation is not willing to take such a step. Under the guise of peace, Russia will push through a repeat of Czechoslovakia in 1938. This cannot be allowed to happen," he concluded.

As The Gaze reported earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may take part in the upcoming summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, scheduled for 15 August in Alaska.
