Trump Directs Envoy Witkoff to Focus on Resolving War in Ukraine

Amidst the resolution of the conflict in Gaza, U.S. President Donald Trump asked U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steven Witkoff to focus on resolving the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The Gaze reports on it, referring to Interfax-Ukraine, citing Trump's speech to the Israeli parliament.
The U.S. President emphasized Witkoff's important role in the negotiations and noted his exceptional skills in diplomatic conflict resolution.
The American leader said that Witkoff had previously held a five-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, exceeding the expected duration of the meeting.
“I arranged a meeting for him with Putin, thinking it would be a 15-20 minute meeting. Steve had no idea about Russia (...), and he didn't know much about politics. But he had the trait I was looking for,” Trump said.
According to him, Witkoff enjoys the trust of both sides and is able to effectively discuss complex issues, making him indispensable in attempts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
The President added that his special envoy has the qualities necessary for a successful negotiator and is well-liked both in the US and internationally.
“He's a great guy. Everyone likes him,” Trump stated.
As The Gaze informed earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday declared the war in Gaza officially over after Hamas released all remaining Israeli hostages under a ceasefire deal brokered with U.S. mediation.
