Finland Provides Ukraine with a New Defense Aid Package
The Finnish authorities have decided to provide Ukraine with a new defence support package worth approximately EUR 100 million. This was reported by the country's Ministry of Defence.
This is the twentieth defence package provided by Finnish allies to Ukraine. The total amount of assistance from the country has already reached 1.5 billion euros. According to the Finnish Defence Ministry, the new aid package includes additional military equipment. Traditionally, the Finnish government does not disclose the detailed contents of the packages, as well as the schedule and method of delivery.
"For operational reasons and to ensure that the aid reaches its destination safely, no further details about the contents of the package, the method of delivery or the schedule will be provided. What is at stake in Ukraine's defence struggle is the security prospects of Europe and Finland in the current decade. Together with our allies, we remain unwavering in our commitment to support the Ukrainians," the Defence Minister said.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already thanked Finland for the new assistance.
"I am grateful to Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and the Finnish government for the decision to provide Ukraine with a new defence assistance package. This support strengthens not only Ukraine, but also the security of Finland and the rest of our Europe. I appreciate the implementation of our agreements and Finland's principled position on the path to a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine and throughout Europe," Zelenskyy said.
As a reminder, in October it became known that Finland was providing €92 million in loans and grants to the International Development Association (IDA) Crisis Fund from funds managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Out of the total amount allocated, 62 million euros will be used to support the recovery of Ukraine and Moldova. This includes €12 million in grants and €50 million in loans. In addition, Finland will provide €30 million in loans to countries affected by Russian aggression to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Finland's support to Ukraine, provided through the World Bank Group, will be aimed at strengthening basic public services, restoring critical infrastructure, advancing political reforms, and laying the foundation for Ukraine's reconstruction and recovery.
