Forum of the Hungarian National Community Takes Place in Ukraine
On 2 December, a two-day Forum of the Hungarian National Community entitled ‘Defending the Common Home: the Hungarian National Minority in the Defence and Development of Ukraine’ began in Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications reports.
‘The event is dedicated to the formation of interethnic tolerance, political correctness and highlighting the contribution of the Hungarian community to the cultural and social development of Ukraine, as well as its participation in the resistance to Russian aggression,’ the statement said.
Andriy Najos, Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications for European Integration, stressed the importance of supporting national communities.
According to him, ‘one of the key elements of our multicultural country is national minorities, among which the Hungarian community occupies a special place. The Hungarian community preserves its cultural identity and contributes to the development of our country - in the areas of culture, economy, education and social life.’
‘The state creates the right conditions for the self-realisation of every citizen, providing support for the preservation of the language, traditions and cultural values of national communities. This is one of the key areas of our movement towards the European community. We will continue to move in the same direction,’ Najos said.
The creation of a legal framework for the full functioning of libraries in accordance with internationally accepted requirements was also emphasised.
The state library collection comprises more than 301 million copies of documents, including almost 2 million copies of documents in the Hungarian language.
