German Foreign Minister Wadephul Visits Kyiv After Devastating Russian Strikes

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul arrived in Kyiv on Monday, delivering a strong message of solidarity as the country faces the most intense wave of Russian airstrikes since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
The Gaze reports on this with reference to Spiegel.
The trip, deliberately unannounced for security reasons, comes in the aftermath of a weekend marked by massive aerial bombardments across Ukraine.
Upon his arrival, Wadephul declared that ensuring Ukraine’s freedom and future was “the foremost task” of German foreign and security policy.
His visit signals a clear continuation of Berlin’s support for Kyiv as Russia escalates its efforts on the battlefield and in the skies.
While detailed information about his meetings remains classified, the Foreign Minister is expected to hold high-level talks with Ukrainian government officials in the capital.
This visit to Kyiv is his first in his new role, following an earlier trip to Lviv in western Ukraine, where he was joined by EU counterparts and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
Wadephul condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s strategy as a campaign of “brutal aerial terror,” aimed at breaking Ukrainian resistance.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, on June 29, Russian forces launched a total of 533 aerial projectiles overnight into Sunday.
The assault included 477 drones and decoy systems designed to overwhelm air defenses, as well as 60 ballistic missiles.
Ukrainian officials described the attacks as the heaviest since February 2022, with dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones launched in a coordinated assault.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Germany has committed €8.3 billion in military assistance to Ukraine as part of its 2025 federal budget proposal, marking one of the country’s most substantial contributions to Kyiv since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
