The Effects of Ukraine's Long-Range Strikes Will Become Visible Next Year
"Ukraine's advantage is that it is a decentralized state with a ‘bottom-up’ system, while Russia is highly centralized, ‘top-down’, with a centralized economy and defense industry. Large enterprises and power plants, as well as the fossil fuel industry, make Russia more vulnerable," Austrian military expert and lecturer at the Austrian National Defense Academy Gustav Gressel said.
The Gaze reports on it referring to Ukrinform.
According to Gressel's assessment, the Kremlin “still has room to maneuver, can overcome fuel shortages, and redistribute finances to continue the war.” However, the longer the disruption of oil exports and fuel production in Russia continues as a result of Ukrainian long-range strikes, “the more difficult the situation becomes.”
"The question now is how long Ukraine can withstand this and what support it needs from the West to keep up this pace for as long and as intensively as possible. We will see the results next year. Long-range strikes do not produce immediate, quick results — it is a game of time and endurance. This is, of course, aimed at financial stability, forcing expensive compensation measures, and depleting the Russian military budget. It's a long game," said the military expert.
At the same time, Gressel noted the successful use of Ukrainian Flamingo and Neptune cruise missiles.
"The main thing in using such missiles is proper route planning: knowing where the air defense systems are, where the interception patrols are, and planning the flight time and route so as to bypass Russian air defenses. To do this, Ukraine needs intelligence from the West, and it is important that it receives it on time and in the necessary quality. Neptune, and even more so Flamingo, are large and do not have stealth technology. If they are detected, they are easy to shoot down. But if the route is well thought out, and Russia is large, there are many free areas of sky, the strike can be very effective," Gressel explained.
