Hungary and Ukraine have agreed to open the Velyka Palad-Nagyhodos border crossing point for passenger vehicles and to allow empty trucks weighing more than 7.5 tonnes to cross the Luzhanka-Beregsurany border crossing point.
This was reported by the Ministry of Infrastructure.
The relevant amendments to the Agreement between the governments of the countries on border traffic control were signed by Oleksandr Kubrakov, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine - Minister of Community Development, Territorial and Infrastructure Development, and Heizer Antala, Ambassador of Hungary to Ukraine.
The possibility of constructing a new cargo checkpoint "Dyida-Berehdaroc" is also being considered to increase the capacity of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, the Ministry said.
After signing the relevant amendments to the agreement, the document is to be ratified.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksandr Kubrakov said that work is underway to start substantive negotiations on the introduction of joint customs and border control with Hungary.
"This will allow us to speed up control procedures and reduce the time for crossing the border," the official said.
Currently, Ukraine and Hungary have five road border crossing points. Only the Chop-Záhony checkpoint can handle trucks weighing more than 7.5 tonnes. Both loaded and empty vehicles go there. About 220 trucks cross it daily to leave Ukraine.
