IAEA Mission on Its Way to Russian-Occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Attacked by Russian Drone
A drone attacked a vehicle of the International Atomic Energy Agency mission on the way to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
The IAEA and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this on social media.
‘A drone hit and seriously damaged an IAEA official vehicle on the road to the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Rafael Grossi condemned this ‘unacceptable’ attack on Agency staff working to prevent a nuclear accident during a military conflict,’ the IAEA said in a statement.
Earlier, experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency working at Zaporizhzhya NPP reported that due to lack of access, they could not get to the external spare parts warehouse and diesel fuel storage of the plant.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the attack. He clarified that the vehicle in the convoy was attacked by a Russian FPV drone. There were no casualties or injuries.
‘This attack clearly demonstrated how Russia treats everything related to international law, international institutions and security. The Russians could not have been unaware of their target. They knew exactly what they were doing and acted deliberately.
This attack requires a clear and decisive response from the IAEA and other international partners. Silence or inaction will only encourage further crimes,’ the Ukrainian president said.
