Russia’s Drone Activity Continues to Threaten Ukrainian Nuclear Sites

Russia continues to pose serious risks to nuclear safety in Ukraine. On the night of April 9, eight drones were detected flying within a 4-kilometer radius of the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), The Gaze reports, with reference to the report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to the IAEA, “frequent air raid alarms and the sound of explosions in the distance continue to highlight the remaining risks to nuclear safety at Ukrainian nuclear facilities.”
‘On the night of 9 April, according to information from the facility, eight drones were detected flying within a 4 km radius of the South Ukrainian NPP,’ the agency's report says.
The South Ukraine NPP, located in the Mykolaiv region, is the second largest of the country’s five nuclear power stations.
Meanwhile, the Zaporizhzhia NPP—Europe’s largest nuclear power plant—remains under Russian occupation. As The Gaze previously reported, earlier this year a series of explosions occurred in close proximity to the plant, posing a significant threat to global nuclear security.
Additionally, on the night of February 14, a Russian attack drone carrying an explosive warhead struck a shelter over the 4th power unit of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which was destroyed in the 1986 disaster.
