At the Sotheby's auction in New York, a classic Ferrari model, the 1962 Ferrari 330 LM / 250 GTO, was sold for a record $51.7 million.

This was announced on the official website of the auction house.

"Claiming unique build provenance and a remarkable in-period racing pedigree, this spectacular GTO is among the model’s most singular examples," the auction description stated.

This Ferrari car was publicly displayed for the first time in 38 years and became the most expensive car ever sold by the Italian manufacturer at an auction.

The bidding lasted less than 20 minutes.

"This deal opens a new chapter in the history of a car with an unparalleled heritage. It now ranks among the most expensive cars sold at auctions, a true testament to its special place in history," emphasized Gord Duff, RM Sotheby’s Global Head of Auctions.

It's worth noting that only 39 units of the Ferrari 250 GTO were created between 1962 and 1964. Owners of these cars rarely part with such vehicles.

The collector's Ferrari, sold at the auction, has chassis number 3765 and is one of several dozen cars manufactured with the 1962 body modification. The car participated in the legendary Scuderia Ferrari races, including the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The auction house has not disclosed the name of the new owner of the rare car. However, it was previously owned by Jim Jaeger, a collector from Ohio and co-founder of the Escort radar manufacturing company.

Currently, the title of the most expensive car ever sold at an auction remains with the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, purchased for $142 million in 2022.

Earlier, The Gaze reported that the Sotheby's auction house sold the landscape painting "Here Stopped Time" by the world-renowned Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk for 76,200 euros.

The day before, it was also announced that the painting "Woman with a Watch," depicting the lover of the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, was sold for a record $139 million.
