Russian General Sarvarov was eliminated 16 km from the Kremlin.

The Gaze reports on it according to Dzerkalo tyzhnia.

Ukraine is trying to convince the USA  of its readiness to continue fighting in the war against the aggressor, in particular through the killings of high-ranking Russian military personnel in Russia. The elimination of Fanil Sarvarov, head of the operational training department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, is an alarming signal for Moscow.

This opinion was expressed by Sky News Moscow correspondent Ivor Bennett. Sarvarov was responsible for preparing troops for future deployments. He previously served in Chechnya and Syria. The lieutenant general was killed in a car explosion near a residential complex about 16 kilometres from the Kremlin. No one has yet claimed responsibility for his murder, but Moscow suspects that Kyiv may be involved. According to Bennett, such suspicions are not surprising, as Ukraine has carried out similar operations in the past.

In December last year, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who spoke about biological laboratories in Ukraine, was killed. He also gave orders to use chemical weapons against Ukrainian military personnel. The man was killed by an explosion in a device planted in a scooter near his home. After that, the Kremlin leader  called the incident a ‘serious oversight’ by the Russian special services.

In April, a car bomb exploded near Moscow, killing Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalyk. Prior to that, a car bomb in Siberia killed a Russian commander who had been accused of war crimes. The reasons why Sarvarov was targeted remain unclear. Ivor Bennett suggested that it could have been due to his high status and vulnerability.

Bennett noted that the assassination took place after another round of negotiations between the US and Russia in Miami, where Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev met with US President's Special Representative Steve Witkoff and White House Chief of Staff Jared Kushner. The journalist notes that Ukraine has previously used similar attacks to bring the war closer to Russia's rear and create inconvenience for Moscow. In his opinion, this time Kyiv may have sought to undermine Russia's negotiating position.

According to Sky News, Moscow is trying to convince Washington of Russia's inevitable victory and the futility of further support for Ukraine, hoping for a more favourable end to the fighting. At the same time, Kyiv is trying to send the opposite message, that the country is still capable of fighting.

‘Eliminating Russian generals on their own territory is one way to demonstrate this and show Washington that the Kremlin does not have complete control,’ Bennett concluded.
