The Landscape Painting by the Ukrainian Artist was Sold at Sotheby's for a Record Amount
The painting 'Here Stopped Time,' by the globally renowned Ukrainian artist Ivan Marchuk, was sold at Sotheby's auction for 76,200 euros (81,500 dollars).
The artist announced this on his Facebook page.
According to the artist, the value of his work exceeded the previously set estimated value by approximately 40-60 thousand euros, almost 30%.
"I hope my 'child' has a happy fate," wrote the artist about the landscape painted back in 1982.
It is worth noting that in 2021, another work by the Ukrainian genius, the painting 'Golden Night,' was sold for almost 97 thousand dollars at the 'Golden Intersection' auction. At that time, Ivan Marchuk's work was also sold significantly higher than the expected value.
It is worth mentioning that Ivan Marchuk is one of the most famous contemporary artists. Over the years of his work, he managed to paint over 5 thousand works and hold about 150 solo and 50 collective exhibitions.
The Ukrainian artist is the founder of his own style in painting, called 'Pliontanism.' It is a unique technique in which thin lines intertwine, creating a magically realistic volumetric image.
In addition, in 2006, the International Academy of Contemporary Art in Rome announced its decision to admit Marchuk to the 'Golden Guild' and elect him a member of the academy's scientific council. In 2007, Ivan Marchuk entered the ranking of '100 Living Geniuses,' compiled by the British publication Daily Telegraph.
Recall that earlier, The Gaze reported that the painting 'Woman with a Watch' by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso was sold at an auction in New York for 139 million dollars, becoming the second most expensive painting by the artist. The initial estimated value of the work was 120 million dollars.
In Picasso's 1932 painting 'Nude Woman Lying,' the heroine of many of his works, the French model, lover, and muse of the artist - Marie-Therese Walter - is depicted.
Also, recently, it became known that in the UK, a rare menu for first-class passengers of the sunken liner 'Titanic' was put up for auction, estimated at £60,000. As a result, the menu was sold for £80,000.
