Indian Prime Minister Pays Official Visit to Ukraine for the First Time in History
For the first time in the history of independent Ukraine, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This was reported on social media by Zelenskyy, Modi, and Times of India.
‘Today is a historic visit by the Prime Minister of India, the first since Ukraine's independence, and just before our Independence Day,’ the Ukrainian leader wrote on Facebook.
First, Zelenskyy and Modi paid tribute to the children who died as a result of Russian military aggression. The meeting took place on the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II in Kyiv, where a temporary memorial complex to the children who died from the Russian war was set up.
One of the topics of the meeting was the Peace Summit - how the parties can move forward in this direction. ‘The issue of ending the war and a just peace is a priority for Ukraine. We look forward to India joining the joint communiqué of the inaugural Summit,’ Zelenskyy said.
The parties also signed four documents between Ukraine and India: healthcare, agricultural cooperation, humanitarian relations, and culture.
In addition, Zelenskyy and Modi prepared and released a joint statement following the visit. In it, they called for a comprehensive reform of the UN Security Council to reflect current global realities and ‘become more representative, efficient and effective in addressing issues of international peace and security’.
Also, the Ukrainian side reaffirmed its support for India's permanent membership in the reformed and expanded UN Security Council.
For its part, India expressed hope that Ukraine would join the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
As The Gaze previously reported, the Indian Prime Minister recently visited Poland for the first time in 45 years.
