Indian Prime Minister Visits Poland for the First Time in 45 Years
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in an official two-day visit to Poland the day before. He wrote about it on the social media platform X. This is the first visit to Poland by an Indian prime minister in 45 years.
‘I have just arrived in Poland. I am looking forward to the next items on the agenda. This visit will give a boost to India-Poland relations and will benefit both our nations,’ the Prime Minister said.
Modi also posted photos of the meeting at the airport.
‘I am extremely touched by the warm welcome of the Indian diaspora in Poland! Its energy embodies the strong ties that bind our nations,’ the Indian Prime Minister said in a subsequent post.
On Wednesday, 21 August, Modi laid wreaths at several places in Warsaw. In particular, at the monument to the Good Maharaja (Maharaja Jamu Sahib Digvi Jaisinghji), who created a settlement in Balachad for orphaned Polish children evacuated from the USSR with the help of General Anders' volunteer army, provided them with education in Polish schools, food and access to medical care. It is estimated that about a thousand children were under his care. This monument was unveiled in Warsaw in 2014.
On Thursday, 22 August, the Indian Prime Minister will meet with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda.
After that, Modi will travel to Ukraine and meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on 23 August.
The Indian prime minister has said that during his visit to Kyiv he will share ‘perspectives’ on a peaceful resolution of the ‘conflict’ between Ukraine and Russia, as he calls the Russian war.
