Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Moscow on Monday for a high-level meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin amid intensifying tensions in the Middle East.

The Gaze reports on this with reference to BBC.

The talks, confirmed by both Iranian and Russian sources, are seen as part of Tehran’s diplomatic push to rally support from key allies following a series of U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

Araghchi emphasized Iran’s desire to deepen strategic coordination with Moscow in what he described as “dangerous and volatile conditions.”

“Tehran and Moscow have always shared common concerns, common anxieties, and common adversaries,” Araghchi stated, noting that both nations are seeking to synchronize their positions more closely in the face of growing Western pressure.

The Iranian diplomat also thanked the Kremlin for its condemnation of U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and praised Russia’s ongoing diplomatic backing.

For his part, President Putin expressed Russia’s commitment to “supporting the Iranian people” in light of the mounting regional crisis.

However, he refrained from offering any specific details regarding Moscow’s intended actions.

In a pointed remark, Putin condemned what he called the “unprovoked aggression” against Iran, widely understood to be a reference to the recent attacks by Israel and the United States, and declared that such actions “have no justification.”

He added that the aim of the talks with Araghchi was to “jointly consider viable solutions” to the current geopolitical impasse.

Citing senior diplomatic sources, Reuters reported that Araghchi was carrying a personal message from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to President Putin, urging Moscow to take a more assertive stance in support of Tehran.

The visit underscores the growing depth of the Iran–Russia alliance as both countries navigate mounting tensions with the West.

In January 2025, Iran and Russia signed a Strategic Partnership Treaty that has since facilitated expanded technical cooperation on Tehran’s nuclear program.

According to Western intelligence sources, Russian support has helped accelerate uranium enrichment at the Fordo and Natanz sites, bringing Iran closer to weapons-grade capability – a development that has reignited global concerns over nuclear proliferation.

As The Gaze reported earlier, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed strong support for the recent U.S. military strikes against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, condemning Iran’s actions and drawing attention to its support for Russia’s war against Ukraine.
