Joe Biden Pays Tribute to the Memory of Ukrainian Victims of the Holodomor
The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has honoured the memory of Ukrainians who perished during the Holodomor of 1932-1933.
A corresponding statement was released on the White House website.
"On the anniversary of the Holodomor, the brave people of Ukraine continue to defend their freedom and sovereignty from Russia's brutal aggression. Ninety years ago, Joseph Stalin's inhumane policies created the 'death by hunger.' Millions of Ukrainians—men, women, and children—suffered and died in 1932-1933 due to artificial famine. Stalin and his regime systematically seized and transported Ukrainian grain to other parts of the USSR as a method of suppressing Ukrainian national identity," stated the President of the United States.
In his statement, the President also emphasized that today, Ukrainian agricultural infrastructure is once again a target—this time by Vladimir Putin, attempting to subjugate Ukrainians and seize power in the country.
According to Biden, Russian forces aim to destroy Ukraine's economy and independence, mining fields, and deliberately destroying Ukrainian grain storage facilities and ports.
"On this anniversary, we remember and honour all those who endured such hardships, both past and present, and who continue to fight against tyranny. We also pledge to prevent suffering, protect fundamental freedoms, and respond to human rights violations wherever they occur. We stand united with Ukraine," underscored Joe Biden.
This year, Ukraine and the world commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
In the early 20th century, Ukraine experienced three periods of artificial famine: 1921-1923, 1932-1933, and 1946-1947. The most tragic of these was the famine of 1932-1933, as the mass physical extermination of Ukrainian farmers was a deliberate act of terror by the Russian totalitarian system.
As reported by The Gaze, representatives of the European Union and 55 UN member states supported Ukraine's Declaration at the UN on the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor. It is also worth noting that on December 15, 2022, the European Parliament supported a resolution recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide against the Ukrainian people.
