On 23 November, Ukraine commemorates the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 and the mass man-made famines of 1921-1923 and 1946-1947.

The Holodomor of 1932-1933 was an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people, deliberately organised by the totalitarian communist state - the Soviet Union. Today, Russia is trying to achieve this through aerial terror and repression in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

By using food as a weapon, Russia poses a threat to global food security, but the international community must ensure that the horrors of the Holodomor do not happen again.

This was stated at a regular meeting of the Permanent Council of the OSCE in Vienna by the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the OSCE, Neil Holland, in a statement on the 91st anniversary of the Holodomor-Genocide of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

‘The Holodomor was one of the darkest chapters in the history of Ukraine and Europe - a terrible man-made catastrophe that took the lives of millions of innocent people. On this 91st anniversary, the UK honours the memory of all those who died. We pay tribute to our Ukrainian friends who continue to work to ensure that the truth about the Holodomor is recognised after decades of silence by the Soviet Union,’ the British Ambassador said.

Ukraine's agricultural infrastructure, as in 1932-1933, is once again under attack from Moscow, this time from Putin. According to Ukrinform, this was stated during a regular meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna by the US Chargé d'Affaires to the OSCE, Catherine Brooker, in her statement on the 91st anniversary of the Holodomor-Genocide of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.

‘Every year in November we honour the memory of the Holodomor victims. For the third year in a row, we do so as the brave people of Ukraine continue to defend their freedom and sovereignty against Russia's war of aggression,’ Brooker said.

She reminded that 91 years ago, the inhumane policies of Joseph Stalin and the Soviet regime caused the Holodomor, which resulted in the deaths of millions of Ukrainians. ‘Stalin and his regime systematically confiscated Ukrainian grain and land. The regime used this grain to supply other parts of the Soviet Union, seeking to suppress Ukrainian national identity. The Kremlin has made every effort to hide this truth from the world,’ the American diplomat added.

Russia's genocidal war against Ukraine is making the world realise the tragedy of 1932-1933. 28 countries have recognised the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. The European Parliament, PACE, the UN, UNESCO, the OSCE and a number of other international organisations and associations have also recognised the Holodomor as genocide.

Russia, on the other hand, not only officially denies the genocidal nature of the Holodomor, but is once again trying to use famine as a weapon in the current war against Ukraine.

Today, the Russian occupiers in the occupied Ukrainian territories are preparing for repressions against those who honour the memory of the Holodomor victims in Ukraine. They call for the ‘surrender’ of anyone who lights a candle or shows other signs of grief.
