Latvia Donates Firefighting Vehicles and Rescue Equipment to Ukraine
Latvia has announced the donation of 16 fire trucks and emergency rescue equipment to Ukraine.
The Gaze writes about it, referring to Latvia’s media outlet LSM.
The vehicles, previously operated by the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) of Latvia, will be officially handed over during a ceremony on Friday, August 8.
The event will include Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis, senior SFRS officials, and members of the civic initiative Tavi draugi, which has played an active role in humanitarian aid efforts for Ukraine.
The Latvian government approved the initiative in July, endorsing the Ministry of the Interior’s proposal to transfer the vehicles and specialized gear at no cost to Ukraine.
The delivery will be carried out by off-duty Latvian firefighters who volunteered their personal time to transport the equipment.
This latest aid package follows several similar acts of support from across the Baltic and Nordic regions. Estonia recently sent 22 police vehicles to Ukraine, donated jointly by the Estonian Police and the Rotary Club of Tallinn.
In July, the Finnish city of Tampere, Kyiv’s sister city, also gifted two buses to the Ukrainian capital.
As The Gaze reported earlier, Latvia’s media regulator has ordered the blocking of ten additional websites for promoting Russian propaganda, bringing the total number of restricted domains to over 400 since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
